I'm sharing my experience, all the ups and downs, of being a mathematician and an eductor and my journey towards (my idea of) work-life balance.

Don’t lose money when tech goes down

Will you believe me when I tell you it's in your clients' interest for you to keep charging them even when you can't deliver the lesson? I'll reveal this and more interesting points in today's episode, which I know will be very relatable for so many educators.

I've also mentioned more things in today's episode, so here's where it all leads: https://veronikaskyemaths.com/educators — more helpful information and networking meetings, all free.

Oh no, a break
10/17/2025

Do you also wonder what happens when you take a break...? This is a short episode, so I won't spoil the fun and let you find out by listening to it.

Choose your students wisely
10/03/2025

Today's episode can be summarised by a universal truth I learnt from others; let go to let in. And that's why it was difficult to talk about. It wasn't difficult to talk about the idea; it was difficult because it's a sensitive topic. So power through the examples, stay open-minded, and when you get to the end, you'll get the hopefully quite powerful wrap-up. Because, for a good work-life balance, you need to work with the people who are the right fit for you, as well as you are the right fit for them.

Homework and your work life balance
09/26/2025

To give or not to give homework? While this is completely up to you and how you run your business, I'll share with you how homework can be implemented in your services (especially if that's what your clients want, while it may not be your default setup) without taking loads of time and affecting your work-life balance.

Pain-free price increase
09/19/2025

Discussion about your prices and increasing your prices doesn't have to be painful, awkward nor a dreaded business chore. I'll explain more inside, speaking from my experience (as usual) how I deal with these things and how I get clients excited about spending money that many would be worried to charge for their services. And yes, that includes the fact that I'm totally focused on making sure the clients are happy to work with me.

Inverted workweek
09/12/2025

Today, I'm sharing my "secret" about working two days a week, instead of five. And I'm referencing my miniseries a lot. So, if you want to learn even more, hop on my email list, it's all there: https://veronikaskyemaths.com/educators

The ultimate hack to business success
09/05/2025

I promise I'll reveal the hack literally in the first two minutes. But it turned out it was worth talking about it a bit longer, so stick around for the whole episode to make the most of it.

And if you're digging around your processes and actions you're taking, finding ways "how to"... I mentioned, that one of the ways that can help is networking. Too young to tutor?
08/29/2025

Having any naysayers around you just because you happen to advertise tuition after you finished your high school? This episode is for you, coming from someone who started tutoring at the age of 17; I'm cheering you on, guys!

How to deal with exam results
08/22/2025

Worried about your students' exam performace? Bothered by not being told their exam results? Chasing clients for testimonials to hoard top grades results in order to show off how brilliant of an educator you are? You may find this episode a bit controversial, but if you stay open minded, it can actually help you down the line with the educator's exam results anxiety, which is (suprisingly?) very common.

How I dealt with procrastination
08/15/2025

While I can't tell you how you should deal with procrastination (I'm not trained for that), I can tell you how I dealt with it myself. Get inspired!

Oh, and if you're curious about the accountability group thing I mentioned, let me know. The more feedback I get, the more likely I'll do something about it (the same idea fuels my free online networking meetings — as long as you want them, I run them).

The best way to get in touch and share your thoughts with me is to hop on my mailing list. I wo...

Summer tuition and your sanity
08/08/2025

I shared two key secrets to keeping your sanity while running lessons over the summer holidays. And all is underpinned by a very powerful concept (which I shared at the end). If you follow that, you'll be more likely to have a less bumpy holiday tuition experience. Unless you decide not to tutor over the summer at all, like I did, but that's a story for another time. In today's episode, I talked about — besides other things — the importance of good Terms of Service. If you're curious to learn about mine, you can see them here: https://www.veronikaskyemaths.com/ter...

Should you invest in your business and personal growth?
08/01/2025

If your only question is whether you should invest in your business and your persoal growth, I'll spare you 40 ins of listening to me today, the answer is "definitely yes". But I'm diving deep beyond that question in today's episode, and answering more important one — how to choose the right coach, mentor, advisor, program, course,... And the answer is not as easy as "I'll just ask for recommendations". In this episode, I've mentioned that I have a list of my recommendations (funny enough, as I just said you shouldn't only rely on people's recommendations — those are just the first step...

Holidays and work life balance
07/25/2025

Coming back from a holiday fully refreshed and not stressed about the mountain of tasks waiting to be resolved is definitely a crucial part of (every)one's work-life balance. One way is to have a team, or at least one VA, to deal with this; another way is to have a good tech stack with capable customer support, or ideally a combination of both.

In this episode, I'm reflecting on last year's Hebridean holiday compared to this year — and how investing in your business and yourself can move the needle. And I'm also talking a bit about ho...

What do you want to know?
07/18/2025

Enjoy this shortest episode ever, and let me know what you want to hear about — the best way to reach out to me is via email. You can join my email list to access my mini-series (think of it as a gated bonus for my subscribers that goes hand in hand with this podcast) and see if there's anything else you want to know about that I can share with you. If yes, just reply to my intro email (you won't get too many too often, it's not a newsletter) and let me know: https://veronikaskyemaths.com/educators

Can you actually relax and enjoy your time off?
07/11/2025

The big question everyone should ask themselves. And honestly reflect on it. Enjoying free time may not come naturally to everyone. To some (perhaps to many), it's a skill to be learnt. Let's reflect on this and find ways to enjoy our free time when we're off the clock.

How AI helped me with my newsletter content
07/04/2025

I do litle with AI but when I use it, I'm trying to make it really work for me. This time, I've discovered something really cool (And likely, others are already using AI for this - I'm sure it's not some kind of secret breakthrough what I'm about to share...)

Basically, I learnt how to use AI to help me structure better content for my subscribers, so they benefit much more from what I write (because in the end, AI suggests things thanks to my prompts but I write the end results myself) and I benefit from...

Is there a shortcut to work life balance?
06/27/2025

In this episode, I discuss the core part that's behind my success with reaching a good work-life balance (imagine having 2.5 months of summer holiday, for example) and whether it's possible to achieve that faster than I did.

Throughout the episode, I've mentioned my email list that you can join to discuss work-life balance with me and network further. So, if you want to join, visit my website, the part for educators: https://www.veronikaskyemaths.com/educators

Why I tutor only Pure A level Maths
06/20/2025

To provide the best services, do what you know best. I applied this to tutoring A level Maths. In this episode, I will tell you how it actually works and why it's good for you, as well as the clients, to focus on what you want to do and work with the right students.

P.S. Do you tutor A level Maths mechanics and/or statistics? Be in touch, my students might be waiting for your help.

Is working for agencies worth it?
06/13/2025

My thoughts about working for tuition agencies and how it aligns with work-life balance. Is it worth it, or should you find your own students? And what if you want to earn more than the agency offers (or can realistically pay you, even if you'd be in charge of what you want to be paid)?

The AI prompt that helped my blog writing
06/06/2025

I'm not the one with a high command over AI, but recently, I created this prompt in my favourite text-based AI (that'll be Gemini), and it produced really good results, so I want to share it with you.

Clearly, this will be handy only for those who don't have a high command over English 😄 (hello, fellow foreigners...)

And my spruced-up blog posts will be on my to-do list now. Here we go, one step away from my foreigner English and one step closer to a normal English 😄

THE PROMPT:

Here's my blog...

When networking feels like wandering through a thick fog
05/30/2025

When I discovered a way that gives networking more shape and purpose, I had to share this with you. Just a fair warning: this episode is extremely "fuzzy" because my brain is still spinning from the whirlwind of new information.

I mentioned two names, Angela Henderson and Zach Spuckler, if you want to look them up. They modelled beautifully what I'm talking about in this episode.

And when you here my prompt in the end, I said I'll share a way to reach out if you want to. Right now, the best way to get...

Networking is the most secure way to grow your business

What is your secret super power?
05/16/2025

You may be surprised what your superpower is (it may be so secreted that you don't even know about it). And while speaking of superpowers, let's look at the anti-powers, too. Are they really that bad? And what to do about them?

Do you deserve work-life balance?
05/09/2025

A different take on why work-life balance is beneficial - and not only to yourself but also to (pretty much) everyone around you. And while there's no secret formula to achieve work-life balance, I spill the beans more in detail in places beyond this podcast. To learn more, connect with me through my mailing list to stay in touch: worklifebalance.veronikaskye.com

Do you let others make you sit back?
05/01/2025

A little story about when I was at a concert and how it relates to our natural feeling of wanting to stay in our comfort zone and to not stand out. And what happens when you do.
