Episode 18 - Booktok made me do it… The role that social media plays on our book buying habits.

As some huge butthole told me on FB..

The reason I don’t read hyped books is because… wait for it… drum roll…. I’m old… HAHA!

Wow to being an ageist. I tried to explain that I have been disappointed too many times but she still went with that i'm an old fart…

Episode 17 - Tropes. The new way of reading and reviewing books

 @theWrightkindofbooktalk

Hello readers! Welcome to the wright kind of book talk

It’s March 4th 2025 and this is Episode 17 - Tropes. The new way of reading and reviewing books.

I have noticed a lot of book reviews lately come with a list of tropes and very little in the way of a conversational review. It seems to be becoming popular… A lot of readers use tropes as a way of picking books as well so clearly the evolution of how we choose our books is adapting and reviewers are on board with that.

Episode 16 - Triggers and Tropes… The evolution of how we choose our books. This is such a controversial topic in my groups right now. The line is clear. Those that believe it is on the author to provide a list of anything that could potentially upset someone and those who believe its on the reader to do the research, like checking goodreads or storygraph, that has all the triggers for books listed thanks to people who have reviewed the book.

So what is a trigger warning? watch the episode!!

Episode 15 - A journey through literary darkness - Books under a cloud of controversy

What books have the kind of marketing no author wants… I was watching a heated debate with a group of readers about the book American Dirt…Being the kind of person I am, I didn’t add my 2 cents to the insanity but it made me wonder… What books out there have been overshadowed by negative connotations. I went to FB and I wasn’t expecting the influx of books and authors surrounded in controversy. I swear I don’...

Episode 14 - Best book to screen adaptations

We have all been there. A movie based on a book you really enjoyed… You cannot wait to see your favorite characters you've imagined in your head come alive on the screen…. And BOOM! They couldn’t have got the character more wrong. It doesn’t follow the storyline right and the whole thing isn’t what you imagined. I discuss the books I read then watched the movie of.

Which was better and movies you may mot have known were o...

Episode 3 - I stand with the banned.

WOOOOWEEEEEE this has been a conversation and a half online for the past couple of weeks. The fear of books being banned in schools, from being able to buy anymore and of books disappearing from e-readers.

What is a book banning? It’s a form of censorship. It usually occurs when individuals, government officials or organizations want to remove books from libraries, schools and bookstores

Should books be rated like movies and you need ID to watch or purchase?

Dog earring vs Bookmarks is a hot topic between readers and the divide is clear. Where do you stand?

Are you guilty of turning down the corner of your page in the book you are reading so you can save your page?

Or are you a book purist that will use a bookmark or anything resembling a bookmark to save your page?

Do you annotate your books? Maybe with sticky tabs (show tabs) or by highlighting things to remember. Tell me what side of the debate you fall on.<...
