GET REAL
Get real.
 Worlds divided
Which one you gonna choose? What’s the appeal? Get real. Bustling crowd!
 Soldiers lined up for pay!
 girls sing school songs!
 Little white blouses—
long blue skirts— Bright sunshine—
scarves everywhere! I pull my chord—
 I'm airborne, in heaven—
harmonies turn fire!
 Fire in my eyes!
Fire on the skin I shed!
I still feel it!
 I can't close my eyes!
 I see blood on blouses—
blood on scarves! I burn—
they kick my face! I can't run—
I AM IN HELL.
 Paradise?
 Who decides? Get real!
Worlds divided, one done, one yet to be born,
 Choose the latter—
new day, new horn.
It is a...

nu bluz - an ignorant man leaves unusual artifacts for future archaeologists to ponder by Byron Haskins

an interpretation of a poem published in 2011 in my anthology "Lake Affect: Collected Poetry" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0139IXMFO named "Spring 5/3". Little wings speak flicker and glow the moon rises high above I put roses in wearing heavy leather gloves palms sweating wild violets sing bees dance with me I smell colors and my toes tingle in the little puddles left behind by my hose warm winds you bring I love you Spring. © Byron Haskins, 2011, all rights reserved.

myth, emotion and fact walk into a bar. The beer is not as good as myth said, emotion cries into it, and fact, as usual, picks up the tab

I rarely do covers, but my youngest son, an accomplished singer suggested I learn this song because he thought of my lyrics when he heard it. This is my version. BTW, I absolutely am in awe of the work of Mon Rovia.

extemporaneously Culture spa
Time to go to the spa
Time to purge my body, spirit, and mind
Time to go to the culture spa
 Time to kick the system
Before I go deaf, dumb, and blind
All my life I tried my best
To take in all that’s good
I ate my fruits and vegetables
Avoided processed foods But everywhere I look around
 There’s emptiness on display
 A diet of commercial feelings
 Fed to me every day
Toxic, sweetened emotions
Manipulative devotion
 Political snake-oil potions
Sold as cures for the nation
 Mogging, maxxing, self-abuse
 Punch-me—in-the-face-for-beauty delusions
Every kind of crazy notion
 Masquerading as anomie...

baal the lonely sand witch by Byron Haskins

pizzaboxcar by Byron Haskins

The Fire Horse lunar year promises to brighten dark days.

A pregnant noblewoman is approached by a beggar and her children, whom she dismisses, making some comparison of the beggar's children to pigs as she does so. The beggar curses the pregnant noblewoman, and come the birth of her child it is a girl, healthy and perfectly formed in every respect other than having the face of a pig. Such is the fate of the children of persons who wear all the signs of not caring about the suffering around them.

the world has been chilled by this before and warmed up from it before

A person born in the year of the fire dog chases his tail. His hair and dander flies from his faux gold pedestal and makes our eyes weep and our noses burn. When will he fall?

When it comes to those who prefer the dominion of cocks, there is always a pecking order.
