Ken 'Snakehips' Johnson, swing band leader, conductor, dancer and BBC broadcaster performs weekly at the BBC whilst leading his band, The West Indian Jazz orchestra. Ken and his band are the house band at the fashionable Cafe de Paris club located in the basement below a cinema in Soho. In March 1941, Ken leaves his lover the infamous Gerald Hamilton, aristocrat, spy and 20 years Ken's senior, to make his way across London as the Blitz strikes.
