Host Mark Call's look back at some of the major news of the week, for 22 August, 2026, has a bit different "flavor" this week, because, he suggests, it's not the individual stories that matter so much at this point - after all, we not only know they're LYING, on just about every single front - but also that Big Brother really wants you dead.

And as that becomes more and more undeniable, and imminent - it changes how we need to "view the world."  And our own places in it.

The annual Torah portion reading this week is parsha "Shoftim" (Deuteronomy 16:18 through 21:9) and it begins with exactly what the Hebrew word means: appointment of "judges."  Unlike what we've gotten used to now that "lawlessness abounds," however, they are to judge "righteously."  Thus, in accord with His Instruction, which is what "torah" means.

And as the Erev Shabbat reading says shortly thereafter, "justice, JUSTICE you shall pursue."  What a concept.  "Quaint," even -- by woke standards (or lack thereof.)

Again, there is certainly no shortage of evidence that the Rule of Law has been ALMOST dead and buried.  But it's the OTHER evidence that some folks are finally getting sick and tired of - and are even willing to do something -- about what has been going on for so long that should be the center of attention.
