Day 21 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 21: Luke 23:46
46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.
Prayer Lesson: Jesus’ final words on the cross were acknowledging that He had done what the Father had sent Him to do. And then He “breathed his last.” He died to pay for the price of sin. Thanks be to God that breathing His last did not mean His life was over. If so, His death would have been a waste. Romans 4:25 (NIV) says “He was delivered ov...
Day 19 or 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 19: Luke 23:34
34 And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.
Prayer Lesson: One of the most moving moments when Jesus was on the cross, dying an agonizing death for our sins, was when He prayed that God would forgive the people who put Him there. He would then go on and forgive the thief next to Him, who earlier had been mocking Him. Jesus’ heart reflects the Father’s heart. A heart that runs after sinners, embracing them, and forgiving them. Ho...
Day 20 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 20: Matthew 27:46
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Prayer Lesson: Yesterday we looked at one of the most moving moments of Jesus on the cross. Today we see one of the most shocking. Jesus asks God, “Why have you forsaken me?” We saw in Gethsemane that Jesus was on board with God’s plan for Him on the cross. However, it appears that Jesus is feeling betrayed by the Father. It’s not betrayal that He...
Day 18 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 18: Luke 22:44
44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Prayer Lesson: Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” In v. 4 he goes on to say, “a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.” Life isn’t always lived on a mountaintop. Sometimes we must go through the valley. Jesus was experiencing such agony that it caused Him to swe...
Day 17 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 17: Luke 22:43
43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him.
Prayer Lesson: Jesus prayed and God sendt an angel to strengthen Him. We don’t know how this angel strengthened Jesus, but he did. It begs the question, does God send angels in response to our prayers? We do have an example from the Old Testament. According to Daniel 10, Daniel prayed for help and God sent Michael the angel to help him. One of the roles of angels is to help believers. Hebrews 1:14 says the following about angels, “Are they not...
Day 16 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 16: Luke 22:41-42
41 And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”
Prayer Lesson: Sometimes prayer is a clash of wills. We have desires but they don’t always match up with God’s desires. Scripture says that God will give us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4); however, only if they are in alignment with His will. Think of prayer as the opportunity for some spiritual alignment. We should b...
Day 15 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 15: Luke 22:39-40, 45-46
39 And he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. 40 And when he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
45 And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
Prayer Lesson: The Garden of Gethsemane sits at the base of the M...
The Four Last Prayers of Jesus

Luke 22:39-46, 23:33, 23:44-46; Matthew 27:46
Day 14 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 14: John 17:25-26
25 “O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
Prayer Lesson: The end of Jesus’ priestly prayer is a reminder that we have the love of God when we have embraced the Son of God. What greater thing to dwell on than the love of God! It’s such a...
Day 13 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 13: John 17:24
24 “Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.”
Prayer Lesson: This verse is a reminder that Jesus has existed for eternity (“you loved me before the foundation of the world”). And it’s only through Jesus that anyone can spend eternity with the Heavenly Father. Jesus prayed that we would be with Him. He is praying for the souls of mankind. Are we? Do we pray pa...
Day 12 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 12: John 17:20-23
20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may kn...
Day 11 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 11: John 17:14-19
14 “I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that th...
Day 10 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 10: John 17:6-13
6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for th...

Day 9 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 9: John 17:1-5
When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with th...
Day 8 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 8: John 17:1,6,20
1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you.”
6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.”
20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word
Prayer Lesson: There are three different individual...
Day 7 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 7: Matthew 6:14-15
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Prayer Lesson: In vs. 14-15, Jesus moves from an example of prayer to a condition of prayer. Jesus is saying that our unwillingness to forgive others will impact our prayer life. An unforgiving heart won’t be forgiven because it’s not truly repentant. Our unhealthy human relationships can lead to an unhealthy relationship with God. Since we’ve been forgiven much, we should...
Day 6 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 6: Matthew 6:13
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
Prayer Lesson: James 1:13 clearly teaches that God will never tempt us with sin. Yet Jesus’ prayer example, “lead us not into temptation,” seems to contradict what James taught. Does the Bible contradict itself? No. The New Testament Greek word for “temptation” is peirasmos. This word can also be translated testing or trial. Jesus’ example of how disciples should pray most likely carries the idea of a believer, in their weakness, asking God not to allow into their lives more then they can bare. T...
Day 5 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 5: Matthew 6:12
"and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.”
Prayer Lesson: Debt used in this verse is another word for sin. The debt of sin was paid for through the death and resurrection of Jesus. This means that we will not be punished with eternal death. However, in our daily life, when we sin, we still need to seek God’s forgiveness. When people wrong us and seek our forgiveness, we should forgive them. When we wrong God by sinning, He definitely will forgive us. Celebrate your forgiveness today!

Day 4 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus

Day 4: Matthew 6:11
“Give us this day our daily bread”
Prayer Lesson: This part of Jesus’ prayer is a reminder that we should bring our day to day needs before the Lord. The Apostle Paul put it this way, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6). Bringing our needs to the loving Father is a great weapon against fear and anxiety.
Prayer for Today: Write the following four words on a piece of paper: Me, Family, Friends, Church. Un...
