Dorofeyev ignites VGK in shutout win over Chicago
#1343

The Golden Knights blanked the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 Saturday night.  Pavel Dorofeyev had a second straight three point night to fuel VGK.  He is up to 34 goals on the season, one shy of last year's mark, with 15 games remaining.  He has six points in two games.   Adin Hill started his fourth straight game for VGK.  He survived a couple of shots that hit the post, a save by Tomas Hertl when he was out of position behind the net, and a goal taken down due to a hand pass.  We also discuss the identity of the Bottom Six starting to sha...

VGK bounces back as Stone returns, Doro with three points in win over Pens
#1342
Last Friday at 1:25 PM

Bruce Cassidy reset the lines with the return of Mark Stone last night and VGK responded in a 6-2 victory at the Fortress over the slumping Pittsburgh Penguins.  Although Stone didn't score, his presence was felt for the Golden Knights as the line combinations were reset, including Mitch Marner going back to his natural wing position on a line with Pavel Dorofeyev and Tomas Hertl.  Marner scored a goal on an acrobatic shot in the game.  Dorofeyev also had a three point night.  The surprise line was Sissons, Bauman and Howden, which played together for the first time.  Adin Hill...

Key four-game homestand begins with Penguins rematch tonight!
#1341
Last Thursday at 1:27 PM

VGK opens a pivotal homestand tonight against the Sidney Crosby-less Penguins.  The Penguins are playing their second game of a five-game road trip without Crosby, who is still recovering from an injury sustained in the Olympics.  They also are without Evgeni Malkin, who is suspended until Monday, as part of his punishment for a slashing incident on the Sabres Rasmus Dahlin.  The Pens knocked off VGK in the first meeting earlier this month 5-0.  Head coach Bruce Cassidy is pleading with his team to quit overpassing and taking more shots on net.  We discuss taking the final 17 games in "Small...

VGK passes up open shots, falls to third place after 2-1 loss in Dallas
#1340
Last Wednesday at 1:29 PM

VGK dropped a close 2-1 decision in Dallas last night.  The Golden Knights passed up several shooting opportunities from the slot, especially, in a close game.  Bruce Cassidy said his team gets too cute and tries to make the perfect pass.  Overpassing also hurt the Golden Knights on the power play unit.  Jack Eichel had the only goal of the night, following another scoreless first period.  VGK played better defensively than it has in recent times. Oscar Back and Jamie Benn each scored in the second period for Dallas, once on the power play.  The Golden Knights fell to third...

Urgency needed in Dallas tonight!
#1339
Last Tuesday at 1:30 PM

VGK will have to play with a sense of urgency tonight with a logjam in the standings and needing to find an identity as the season winds down.  The Golden Knights trail Anaheim by a point in the Pacific, but several teams are starting to close in.  VGK will face the hottest team in the league, the Stars, in Dallas today.  It will be a matchup of Dallas' hot streak vs a Golden Knights team that is struggling for consistency.  Dallas has won 11 of 12 and had a 10 game win streak halted in a shootout vs the Avs.  We talk about...

Wheels coming off for VGK following a night of blunders in loss to Oilers
#1338
03/09/2026

The Pacific Division has really tightened after VGK lost at home to the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 in a four-point game.  Bruce Cassidy might have lost his way with the Golden Knights.  We had to question the lineup VGK put on the ice with Mitch Marner still playing center, despite the return of Brett Howden and Brenden Saad getting the start over Reilly Smith. There was a faceoff loss that led to a breakaway as Vasily Podzolkin stole the puck and took off to the races.  There were questionable coaching moves and game management wasn't good, especially down the stretch.  Cass...

Trade deadline looms, still work to be done
#1337
03/06/2026

There is still work to be done, but VGK acquired veteran center Nic Dowd to its lineup Thursday.  The club filled one need by getting a center that could play on the third or fourth line.  We could see Tomas Hertl moved up to the second line to enable Mitch Marner to return to his natural wing position.  VGK still could use a Bottom six scorer and they are definitely in the market for a goaltender. We will see what Kelly McCrimmon has up his sleeve as the deadline looms. VGK returns to the ice tonight for the first tim...

VGK digs out of 3-1 hole to break losing streak with overtime win in Detroit
#1336
03/05/2026

The comeback win against Detroit could be a pivotal season-altering moment for VGK.  The team needed to rebuild accountability and potentially reset its identity at a critical juncture.  VGK rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win in overtime on a Tomas Hertl redemption goal.  He had committed two bad penalties including a tripping call with over two minutes left in regulation.  Mitch Marner helped fuel the comeback with a goal and a helper.  VGK returns home to T-Mobile on Friday.  For the Olympians, some have been away from Las Vegas for a month.  We have heard there have been convers...

BONUS Episode - Cole Smith?

VGK made a late-night trade Tuesday to obtain Cole Smith from Nashville.  What does the trade mean and is this the first of multiple moves for the slumping Golden Knights?

Same frustrating pattern as VGK chases game in 3-2 loss
#1334
03/04/2026

The Golden Knights have now lost three straight and are assured of a non-winning road trip.  Last night on Jack Eichel's return to Buffalo for a fourth time, VGK trailed 3-0 in the second period before they started to play.  Ivan Barbashev scored on a wraparound and Pavel Dorofeyev scored to make it a 3-2 game.  But the Golden Knights couldnt come all the way back as they sunk to 1-3 on the post-Olympics road trip.  Things might not get much better tonight as VGK travels to Detroit on the tail end of a back-to-back.  The Red Wings are looki...

Olympic gold medals won't be enough to shield Jack Eichel from a frosty Buffalo reception
#1333
03/03/2026

We will see if the temperature in Buffalo toward Jack Eichel has cooled in his fourth visit back to the Queen City.  It has been frosty to say the least since he departed the Sabres organization.  Eichel, along with VGK teammate Noah Hanifin, will join Team USA member Tage Thompson for a gold medal celebration pre-game.  We will see if cheers turn to boos after the celebration is over.  We talk about one thing that needs to be changed other than a trade.  And, we have our locks, props and chance for tonight's game.

Shutout and Lifeless: Bruising loss to Penguins
#1331
03/02/2026

VGK had no pulse in Sunday's loss in Pittsburgh. The Golden Knights gave up five goals including two on the power play in a 5-0 loss.  We'd like to blame the goaltending, but there was no offense to speak of either.  The Golden Knights gave up the first of three goals in the second period.  Mark Stone, VGK's captain, was injured in what didn't look like much of a collision with Kris LeTang of the Pens.  Stone didn't return and we feel he could have aggravated a previous injury.  Adin Hill continued to struggle in net.  He has the worst...

VGK's five Olympians expected in the lineup at Capitals tonight
#1330
02/27/2026

VGK travels to D.C. and Pittsburgh this weekend.  We are expect to see the return of all five Olympians to the Golden Knights lineup.  Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin were seen skating in Washington yesterday.  Mitch Marner, Mark Stone and Shea Theodore will be back after missing Wednesday night's game in L.A. VGK sent Tanner Laczynski, Dylan Coghlan and Kai Uchaiz back to the Silver Knights.  VGK could face former goalie Logan Thompson and the Capitals.  Thompson now has 20 wins for a fourth consecutive season.  We could also see the return of Olympian Tom Wilson in D.C.  Th...

VGK rests five Olympians but storms past the Kings 6-4 in L.A.
#1329
02/26/2026

Playing with mostly reserves in the lineup, VGK had a five-goal outburst in the third period enroute to a 6-4 victory in L.A. against the Kings.  The Golden Knights played without Jack Eichel, Noah Hanifin, Mitch Marner, Shea Theodore and Mark Stone - a bulk of their scoring - as they recover from Olympic fatigue.  It was a total team effort for VGK.  Pavel Dorofeyev scored twice and complimentary scoring came from unlikely sources such as Branden Saad, Colton Sissons and Reilly Smith.  The Golden Knights played a more aggressive offensive game and didn't allow odd-man rushes.  We discu...

VGK returns from Olympic break in L.A. with several superstars expected to be missing
#1328
02/25/2026

VGK has scratched Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin, Gold Medalists on the Victory Tour, from Wednesday's game in L.A.  Bruce Cassidy returned to coach his team Tuesday and sounded doubtful that Team Canada's Mitch Marner, Mark Stone and Shea Theodore would be in the lineup against the division rivals.  Cassidy cited the long term health of his team.  Eichel and Hanifin will join VGK in D.C. Friday.  VGK recalled Dylan Coghlin, Tanner Laczynski and Kai Uchacz from Henderson to fill some gaps. Las Vegas is bidding to host the 2028 World Cup of Hockey. Vegas is positioned as a to...

Likely absence of VGK players could impact the team's lineup in L.A. Wednesday
#1327
02/24/2026

We have a debate about balancing post-Olympic celebrations and NHL responsibilities. Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin continued their Olympic celebration Monday night at a club in Miami with their Team USA teammates. They are expected to be in attendance Tuesday at the White House, so it's unlikely they won't return to VGK for Wednesday's game in L.A.  We don't know if Canada's representatives Mark Stone, Mitch Marner and Shea Theodore, along with head coach Bruce Cassidy, will be back in time also.  Meanwhile, Tomas Hertl and Rasmus Andersson returned from their Olympic experience Monday. And we discuss whether La...

USA hopes to strike gold this weekend
#1322
02/20/2026

The U.S. Men's hockey team hopes to strike gold for the first time since the 1980 Miracle on Ice team this weekend.  The USA team faces Slovakia while Canada should have its hands full with the defending champions, Finland.  The winners advance to Sunday's gold medal finale.  Team Canada will probably be without Sid Crosby, who netted the Golden Goal in the 2010 Gold Final vs the U.S. in overtime.  We congratulate the USA Women's team after they captured Gold Thursday in a 2-1 overtime thriller over Team Canada.  Megan Keller scored the game-winner for the U.S. Team.  The Un...

USA and Canada survive to advance to the semis, Marner rises to the occasion
#1320
02/19/2026

The Golden Knights Mitch Marner had his biggest moment on the Olympic stage by potting the game winner in Canada's 4-3 overtime win over Czechia.  Meanwhile, Team USA also escaped a loss by knocking off Sweden in overtime on a Quinn Hughes rocket from the point, 2-1.  Dylan Larkin scored the other goal for the US.  Canada now meets defending champion Finland and Team USA will play Slovakia.  The top four seeds advanced.  These are the same finalists as in 2010 in Vancouver and Sidney Crosby led the Canadians to a 2-1 overtime victory over USA.  VGK's Mark Stone said after...

Jack Eichel was snubbed as a Captain on Team USA.  He won't get a letter for Alternate either.  We really felt that Eichel deserved Captaincy or a letter at the very least.  But Team USA's Bill Guerin stuck with Austin Matthews as captain and alternates Charlie McAvoy and Matthew Tkachuk, as the were during Four Nations.  We have early line rushes for the U.S. and Canadian Men's Hockey Teams.  Both teams open play on Thursday.

All four lines score goals in VGK's 5-2 win over the Canucks
#1304
02/05/2026

VGK handled business last night at T-Mobile Arena in a 5-2 romp over the hapless Canucks.  Following a scoreless first period, the Golden Knights notched three goals in a span of 2:30 - as Eichel, Reinhardt and Barbashev scored goals.  Ever since Cordasco said to trade Barbashev, he's scored goals in four consecutive games.   VGK scored two insurance goals in a minute in the third period with Dorofeyev and Holtz scoring.  Akira Schmid got a big save on Vancouver's Theo Joseph - diving across a wide open net.  The Kings come into town tonight to wrap up the schedule before the O...
