What Are the Jews So Happy About?
06/16/2026

There's Only One Truth - The Lesson of Shavuot
05/20/2026

We live in a "post-truth" world where reality is often bent to fit personal emotions, beliefs, or convenience.

But the festival of Shavuot stands as a powerful reminder of the exact opposite.

This Shavuot, as we celebrate the giving of the Torah, we are celebrating a timeless anchor in a shifting world.

The Secret of the Omer - Parshat Emor
04/30/2026

The Torah commands us to count the days from Pesach to Shavuos. We call this Sefirat HaOmer. Yet the name is puzzling. The Omer was a one-time barley offering brought in the temple on the second day of Pesach. Why define this entire period of counting by a one-time korban? Wouldn't it be more precise to call it: "The Count to Shavuos?"

Parshat Kedoshim is filled not with ethereal ideas, but with practical mitzvos: honesty in business, respect for others, sensitivity, restraint. Because once a person internalizes that Hashem fills all reality, holiness is no longer something...

Is Holiness only for the Holy? Acharei Mot/Kedoshim
04/24/2026

Parshat Kedoshim is filled not with ethereal ideas, but with practical mitzvos: honesty in business, respect for others, sensitivity, restraint. Because once a person internalizes that Hashem fills all reality, holiness is no longer something distant—it becomes something imminent and immediate. Acharei Mos leads to Kedoshim.

Artemis Inspiration
04/23/2026

One of the most difficult things in davening, praying, is when we say the Shema, and we pronounce Hashem's Name, we are meant to think: He is the Creator of everything. Not just the Earth, not just the solar system, the universe - everything. Beyond. And beyond the beyond. Now this isn't an easy thing to imagine. But when I saw those pictures from Artemis II, I got help in visualizing that idea.

The Food of Faith - Pesach
03/29/2026

When you bake bread, you mix the flour and the water, you knead it, and then you set it aside. Your involvement ends at that point. Yet the dough does not remain static. The dough, so to speak, takes over. It seems to change "on its own" Matzah is the exact opposite. From the moment the dough is mixed, it's never left to rise, never left to "develop" on its own. Bread, Chametz, represents a world that seems to be self-raising - where nature appears to operate by itself. And Matzah represents a world where nothing can happen independently...

The Secret of Shabbat HaGadol
03/25/2026

All Jewish festivals are linked to the calendar date and not the day of the week - with one exception: Shabbat HaGadol, which we observe on the day and not the date. What do we commemorate on Shabbat HaGadol, and why don't we celebrate it on its calendar date?

The Sweet Smell of Purim

The Torah commands us not to cause unnecessary suffering to animals, Not just for the sake of the animal, but because cruelty damages the human soul. Do You Remember? - Parshat Beshalach
01/28/2026

Parshas Beshalach is about memory and forgetting. How can a People who has just witnessed miracles that shook the world—the plagues, the Exodus, the splitting of the sea—only days later, forget? They panic. They complain. They say, "Was it for the lack of graves in Egypt that you took us out to die in the wilderness…?" How can you forget something so overwhelming?

Bringing Back the Light - Parshat Va'era
01/14/2026

When my father (olav haShalom) was saying Kaddish for his own father, he once told me something very sincere. He said he felt a little disappointed with the Kaddish – the memorial prayer for the dead. He said, "It doesn't say anything about the person who passed away. It doesn't describe their life, their goodness, their uniqueness. It just says Yisgadal v'Yiskadash Shemei Rabbah — may Hashem's Name be magnified and sanctified! Why doesn't it mention the person who passed away?
