Two cyclones last year has caused significant damage to roads across the Pilbara. The second-most isolated Aboriginal community in the region is Punmu, home to 130 Martu people. The Punmu Road into the community is virtually impassable and there’s no indication from the local shire if the road will be repaired. Karen Dorante spoke to co-ordinator of the local store who is worried about dwindling food supplies.

Â A Widjabul Wieybal woman of the Bundjalung Nation, Rhoda Roberts was known for her accomplishments in the Arts, Media and for advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Her family announced she passed on Saturday the 21st of March after a 7 month fight with cancer.

LET’S TALK- DR.MARLENE LONGBOTTOM
The latest data from the Australian Institute of Criminology has revealed the rate Indigenous women are killed is up to six times higher than non-Indigenous women by intimate partners or family members, and the numbers aren’t going down. First Nations academic, Dr Marlene Longbottom, Associate Professor at the Indigenous Education and Research Centre at JCU, has a body of research which focuses on violence against Indigenous women. She told Karen Dorante Australia’s legal system does little to support survivors and the grieving families seeking justice. Â

LET’S TALK – CALL IT OUT 2025
The annual report of Call It Out highlights entrenched racism in the justice system. Associate Professor Fiona Allison, from Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research at UTS says the report contains the stories of zealous over-policing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the failure of police to enforce the law when the victims of crime are Indigenous. Call it Out is a jointly run by Jumbunna and the National Justice Project which offers an online register for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and others to report acts of racism.
