Episode 195 – Whipping Post

FAIR WARNING: we're all extensively bitchy on this show, this time, and for very good reason. Feel free to skip to the actual news items from NYCC and elsewhere if you don't want to hear us bitching and yelling about - specifically in this case - Crunchyroll and MAPPA and how they continue to make shortsighted mistakes and decisions within their companies that affect all of us on the outside, but it's recommended to listen to so that there's a clear piece of evidence for our continued and collective frustrations with the industry at large. But after that, there's...
Episode 194 – Hashira Nightmare

While the industry front has been pretty slow on things and happenings, the movie and television front has been anything but - it's been preparing for the fall season and beyond, and we've got plenty of excitement for the goods to come, as well as a bit of a theory that the "hot" seasons are shifting to winter and summer as opposed to the fall. We've got talk about all of that to come, as well as a brief rundown of the Aniplex Online Fest stream, all after a rather brief talk about the good and bad of the...
Episode 193 – Switcheroo ’25 (Anime NYC)

Right back at it again with another convention roundup show, the happenings and goings-on at Anime NYC brought about some pleasant treats, some fun in-person experiences, and even some good surprises - as per usual, of course. Convention season is starting to wind down for us, too, so after this and New York Comic-Con we'll be focused on our usual bits of shenaniganry to come - mainly on the movie front with Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, Angel's Egg, and Scarlet... you know, eventually. Movie Night comeback? Maybe. And to go along with all of that, we also take a...
Episode 192 – Anniversary (SDCC & Otakon 2025)

Fashionably late and with Starbucks in hand, because that's just the run of things around here, another three-hour tour of anime nonsense is at hand, bringing both good surprises and shenanigans as far as the eye can see, from the picturesque sights and sounds of AnimEigo and Discotek at this year's Otakon to the madness of the "new" dub for Tai Chi Chasers (a show that, at most, five people will remember), along with plenty of good tidings from San Diego Comic-Con and a slate of upcoming movies to ponder over and question whether or not we want to...
Episode 191 – Fire Drill (Anime Expo 2025)

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip - that started from this tropic port aboard this tiny ship. Xander was a mighty sailin' man, and Andrew brave and sure. Jet and Joe set sail that day for a three hour tour, a three hour tour.
Anime Expo happened and that means our adventure to all that happened in Los Angeles that weekend, of which there was plenty of good and even a bit of smoke going off early - don't worry, everyone's fine, it's just one of those mechanical...
Episode 190 – Late Show

Yes, yes, another late upload, but that's because it's been A WEEK - as most people know. So do enjoy this glorious distraction from the real world as it continues to get more and more enflamed, as we've got good from the Annecy Festival to get to (GKIDS picking things up, Steven Universe returning, and somehow MORE Ninja Kamui coming soon) plus some pre-Anime Expo announcements for CITY (and another show) heading to Prime Video, Gachiakuta getting a same-day dub and a... postshow podcast... coooooool... also Netflix making some interesting moves, Sunrise announcing a new Samurai Troopers series, Shingo...
Episode 189 – Solo Jerk (The 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards Show)

The look on Frieren's face says it all. Another year, another terrible attempt at an "awards show" that's riddled with more corporate schmoozing than your annual Christmas party, and it comes with a whole slate of "awards" that we just can't resist riffing on and yelling at Crunchyroll over - especially since this year's event felt a bit off, even compared to recent years. See you back here next year? Maybe? Anyway, there are good things to talk about here, like REMOW releasing shows both old and new (if you can find them), a small dose of manga and...
Episode 188 – Steel Ball Snatch

WARNING: This show has a running theme of discussions of oral sex all throughout. Because we're stupid. Don't listen if you're not old enough to buy an explicit album.
Hi, everyone - we're back after what ended up being a VERY long April of... nonsense, to put it in a word. A break was needed and a break was had, and now we're back to our grind of anime... well, nonsense, again. But to come back after some time away, we have to take our time with the inundation of information on display, so this will be...
Episode 187 – Live at AnimeJapan

AnimeJapan has come and gone... a while ago, with how late this show is, but with it comes a lot of big announcements of a VERY big summer season coming up, and we're going to lay out the details for what's poised to be a rom-com-heavy July along with the usual updates and menageries that the strange and bizarre anime industry has on offer, like a weird pseudo-incestuous corporate offspring, HiDive losing and gaining some shows this month, Netflix viewer data, a new paid 'adult' platform, and most importantly of all: GAY ANGEL TWINKS.
Thanks for your...
April Update
No, this is not an April Fools Day joke. Things have been pretty slow and rough for a lot of outside reasons and circumstances that have prevented our next episode from being up in a timely manner. Burnout and exhaustion sucks.
The next episode - AnimeJapan 2025 - will be up later in the week.
New episodes will likely resume in May.
Thank you for your time and patience.

Episode 186 – St. Patrick’s Day Nightmare

In Memory Dave Mallow (1948-2025) George Lowe (1957-2025)
The ides of "Smarch" are upon us and they've gotten off to a stupid start. Alas, we're still here doing our thing to help alleviate the continued existential dread we all have to deal with in the world. We've got Amazon getting back into the anime simulcast game in a big way, Crunchyroll trying to make good with a big partner of theirs, Viz kickstarting convention season with a pair of sizable announcements of their own, and some dates for some upcoming seasons that will - at the very...
Episode 185 – The Long-Awaited Reunion!

Yes, the world may be on fire and/or a frigid wasteland at the same time, but we're still here and still kicking. And to prove that there is still some good in the world (along with football YouTuber Tom Grossi raising over a million dollars for charity in one week) there's a very long-awaited announcement: NO. 6 IS GETTING A NEW NOVEL. Let's hope that the reunion will, indeed, be coming for those boys. And along with that, we have the news of BOCCHI THE SECOND SEASON happening, Masaaki Yuasa starting up a new studio, an hour's worth of...
Episode 184 – The Cold Winter’s Arrival.

It's been... quite a month for a lot of us. For a lot of reasons. For the foreseeable future, we're all going to be on our own for a while, and we're all going to be depending on each other for help, support, and even survival. And we're all probably going to need more time to ourselves when we need a break from everything, hence why this show is going up so late. Again, it's been "a month" for the ages. But, as long as we all have breath in our lungs and a drive to distract, we'll keep...
Episode 183 – The Not-So-Daijoubu Culture.

NOTE: parts of the audio from the first 34 minutes of this episode are missing due to technical difficulties.
As 2024 comes to a close, we have one last show as all of the stars seemed to align just right with the added benefit of a very hefty gift bestowed to all of us from Bloomberg - a not-so-lovely exposé on Crunchyroll and their corporate culture that we spent 45 minutes dissecting and lambasting. Quite the added extra for a show that just supposed to be about Jump Festa, but yes, the major happenings from Jump Festa are here as w...
Episode 182 – The Christmas Colony Drop!

Christmastime is almost here, and there's a Gundam coming down everyone's stocking in the new year! A pleasant surprise, for sure, and a good tiding of cheer in the wake of Crunchyroll changing the rules of their "awards" show in totally inconspicuous fashion that has nothing to do with a certain show airing this year about aliens and ghosts. And along with that, there are some fun movies coming out (and some that are not-as-fun), some notable dub casts announced for the new year, the Rascal dub situation is FINALLY mostly sorted out after an entire year, and a...
Episode 181 – The Good Fight Continues On.

So… things may be a bit rough and not make sense, and the future may not be as bright as we’d all like it to, but we’re going to keep doing what we do for all of you as well as all of us - if only to serve as a momentary distraction from the world around us. The fun and shenanigans will continue, even if the real world reminds us how cold it may be, but we’re going to fight the good fight going forward, be it big or small. And so should all of you sinc...
Episode 180 – The Double-A Spinebuster!

Yes, it's a wrestling reference given that the only two on here for this show have names that start with A. And yes, this show is late, once again due to a more-than-hectic week. Apologies for the not-great scheduling, but we're working in the background to get things more stable. Also, there's a thing happening on November 5, so maybe do it either on that date or before - you all know what the thing is, it doesn't need to be said.
Anyway, we've got an abbreviated recap of the summer season, thoughts on Look Back and MHA...

Episode 178 – One More New York Minute!

First, yes, this show is very late. Blame a long work weekend and a few days dealing with COVID (remember that? it's still around) for this show being later than it should have been. But we have plenty of happenings and goings-ons from Anime NYC to talk about, along with the winner of the Look Back sweepstakes, a major deal for One Piece in the UK, and the long-awaited and long-belated summer dub cast rundown - perfect for the season almost ending, we know.
We'll be back next time to talk about some very interesting Shonen Jump...
Episode 177 – The Shonen Jump Equivalent Exchange!

(thumbnail courtesy of Don East)
Yep, it's a shorter mid-convention show here, going up while Anime NYC is in progress in... well, New York, duh. We'll be back next time with a fuller show talking all of those wild convention hijinks, but for now we've got some very interesting developments with Weekly Shonen Jump, in the return of a legendary title coming at the cost of the sudden ending of another title that most definitely exists. Also, nobody wants to let Attack on Titan die and we're very annoyed by that. All of that and a bit...
