Linda's journey involves being seen in both primary and secondary care, recieving treatment from dentists, dental students and ultimately a hygientist. She shares her advice on how to take control of your oral health, gain a healthy mouth and ultimately improve general well being. Her fascinating story shares a perspective on the importance of dental hygienists and educating patients about oral health.

In Episode 1, we hear the amazing story of a patient diagnosed with Tongue Cancer at only 32. Barbara Fountain shares her journey through diagnosis and treatment and how tongue cancer has affected her life. Barbara is now the CEO & Founder of the Young Tongues, a global peer support group for young people diagnosed with Tongue Cancer.

Leaving the bustling city of Birmingham to the quiet aisle of Lewes to study Dental Therapy at the University of the Highlands and Islands was just the start of a 7-year journey for this week’s guest. Jyoti Sumel qualified in 2016 and has since achieved a vast amount in her short career so far. After working in primary care, she moved into community care to utilise full scope of practice and provide support and care to more vulnerable patients. She is amongst the first DCPs to participate in HEEs Clinical Fellowship Scheme. Watch out for this dental therapy leader!

This week on The Eastman Dental Podcast, we have EDHECs very own Marie Parker! Marie is the Deputy Programme Director of Hygiene & Therapy at the Eastman Dental Hospital. Having completed her master’s in education, she is a true advocate for dental education and training. Marie’s impressive journey includes becoming the youngest Chair of the NEBDN, examiner for dental nurse qualifications and Co-Chair of the Dental Apprenticeships Forum. This week, Josh and Julia are joined by the previous Postgraduate Dental Dean for London and Kent, Surrey and Sussex, Peter Briggs. Peter discusses his educational journey through dental school and how he has built his career since qualifying. He has authored or co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications and has taught and lectured at many national and international groups throughout his career. James works between NHS Trusts who run the North Thames Regional Cleft Lip and Palate service, creating dental appliances. James is well published in the field and has been a part of the Orthodontic Technicians Association throughout his career. He has recently been awarded for an Outstanding contribution to the Field of Orthodontic Technology.

This week Josh and Julia chat with Dr Debbie Reed. Debbie, who started off in the Royal Navy, discusses the educational journey that helped her develop her career as a dental nurse. She is now a Reader at the University of Kent, has researched and contributed to many publications, and in 2021 received the Janet Goodwin Dental Care Professional Award from the Royal College of Surgeons Faculty of General Dental Practice. This week, we bring you the inspiring career journey of Sarah Maher. Sarah fell into dentistry at 15, completing her work experience at a practice where her next-door neighbour worked. She nursed for the dentist for the whole week which led to a job offer 2 years later when she completed college. After trying her hand at all aspects of dental treatments, Sarah went from chair side to running an urgent care centre.
