Living an educated and well respected life was not enough for Bernardine who found his true vocation only after becoming a Jesuit priest. His undying love for his people named him the patron saint of Lecce, Italy.

St. William of Vercelli: The Pilgrim Who Could Not Be Discouraged
Beginning his austere life of faith as a pilgrim traveling around Italy, William was eventually beset by bandits who took what little possessions he had. Undiscouraged by this, he determined that he was meant to stay put and become a hermit. In time he formed a religious community. Seeing that his fellow monks did not want the extremely austere life he longed for, William left and founded several more monasteries becoming known for his many miracles.

St. Maria Guadalupe Garcia Zavala: Founder of Hospitals
Although happily engaged to be married, Maria felt God call to her to become a nun instead. Together with her confessor, she founded a new religious order, who worked day and night to help the sick and ailing. Establishing several hospitals throughout Mexico she personally brought hope and healing to many and even hid members of the clergy during the Mexican persecution of Catholics.

St. Joseph Cafasso: Hope For the Condemned
Although born with a defect in his spine, Joseph did not allow his painful deformities to keep him from living a vibrant life of self-sacrifice and spiritual renewal. Recognizing his own mortality he ministered most especially to those who were imprisoned and condemned to death. Offering Reconciliation and the hope of heaven to criminals who wished to convert before their execution.

St. John Fisher: Martyred For Opposing King Henry the 8th
A priest famous for his preaching and commitment to education, John was not afraid to speak out against King Henry IIIX’s selfish divorce from his first wife. His fierce opposition to Henry’s anti-catholic edicts made him a target and he was imprisoned and executed for defending the faith.

St. John Rigby: Cheerful In The Face of Death
A revert from Protestantism back to Catholicism, John lived during dangerous times for Catholics in England. After only three years being Catholic he was discovered, arrested, and tortured for information about other traitors of the Church of England. In the face of such torture and threats he remained resolute and even displayed a cheerful attitude all the way up to his execution.
