A film podcast exploring the best and worst under-the-radar movies released in the past 18 months. We focus on those movies that might have fallen through the cracks. Not the major blockbusters or the billion dollar grossers, but the quality cinema swimming just beneath the surface. And when we aren’t reviewing those under-the-radar movies, we find fun topics in the film industry to discuss. Whether it’s comedy specials, short films, the Oscars, trailer reactions, movie news, or just things we’re into, we do it for a laugh and to help you learn a thing or two.

Megalopolis
#282
11/14/2025

This is our final film review of Season 7, and we decided to go out with a bang: a bizarre labor of love that provokes as much confusion as it does admiration. A film fifty years in the making, equal parts science fiction, political allegory, and personal manifesto from one of the greatest living directors. It’s proof that some people still haven’t processed 9/11, and quite possibly the only place you’ll see an Asian Elvis impersonator singing “America the Beautiful.” It’s Megalopolis, written, directed, produced, and funded by the legendary Francis Ford Coppola.

Pavements
#281
11/07/2025

This week, we profile—to borrow the headline from The New York Times—”A sly ode to the last band you’d give the biopic treatment.” Self-proclaimed as “a new experimental biopic-doc hybrid,” it’s designed to glorify Stockton—the Cleveland of California, deliberately alienate potential fans, commemorate the revolutionary act of singing out of tune, and both introduce and simultaneously immortalize the The World’s Most Important and Influential Band. It’s Alex Ross Perry’s Pavements.

Cuckoo

10/31/2025

It’s that time of year again! Throughout the entire month of October, Time Sensitive has been devoted to blood, guts, and the BEST classic and under-the-radar horror films, and this week, we bring the 2025 edition of the Festival to a close with a dark ornithological fairytale. That’s right, this episode is going to the birds. Literally. It’s Tilman Zinger’s Cuckoo.

It's What's Inside
#279
10/24/2025

This week’s episode is not a profile of a traditional horror film, per se, but one which utilizes a conventional horror trope in a new way. If you could switch bodies with someone, would you do it? Maybe Greg Jardin’s It’s What’s Inside can make you change your mind?

The 28 Days Later Franchise
#278
10/17/2025

It’s that time of year again! Throughout the entire month of October, Time Sensitive will be devoted to blood, guts, and the BEST classic and under-the-radar horror films. We won’t be profiling a single film in this episode. We won’t be profiling two films in this episode. We will be profiling and comparing all three films of the 28 Days Later franchise, which span over two decades, and will continue to thrill audiences in the coming years.

Nosferatu
#277
10/10/2025

“Enduring night. A spectre of death. He spreads his shadow, and he’s coming.” An intertitle from a 1922 film reads: “Nosferatu. Does this word not sound like the deathbird calling your name at midnight? Beware you never say it—for then the pictures of life will fade to shadows, haunting dreams will climb forth from your heart and feed on your blood.” This week, we continue our seventh annual Freaky Film Festival with a gothic horror remake. Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu.

Oddity
#276
10/03/2025

It’s that time of year again! Throughout the entire month of October, Time Sensitive will be devoted to blood, guts, and the BEST classic and under-the-radar horror films.

This week, we kick off our seventh annual Freaky Film Festival with a ghost story, a whodunnit, a jump-scare freakout, a twisty slow-burn psychothriller, and a revenge saga all wrapped into one taut little horror film. It incorporates haunted artifacts, supernatural powers, a thoughtfully considered locale, a creepy orderly, a man with a glass eye, and a deeply fascinating and unsettling lead character. Oh, and it’s Iris...

Poorly Explained Movies
#274
09/19/2025

Every time Sam and Ian review an under-the-radar movie on this show, we read the distributor’s own stylized plot description—likely drafted by a team of marketing professionals—before providing our own. And oftentimes, the PR language from the studio fails to accurately describe the movie, leading us to believe we watched something totally different. This week, we decided to really play that up in our version of Brass Monkey’s “Poorly Explained Movies Game.’

September 5
#272
09/05/2025

Today, we’re rewinding the tape to Munich, 1972, on the 53rd anniversary of “the decisive moment that forever changed media coverage and continues to impact live news today.” It’s a story of sport turned spectacle, where broadcasters became first responders and one billion people watched history unfold live. Grab your headsets and roll camera. It’s the day terror went live. It’s Tim Fehlbaum’s 94-minute bullet train about media ethics titled September 5.

The Surfer

This week, Nicolas Cage is The Surfer. But don’t let that fool you. He’s still unhinged, bloody, tense, gun-wielding, manic, fabulously bonkers, and gayly attacking locals with tire irons, rats, and assorted signage. He’s a weirdo losing his shit. Shock! It’s Lorcan Finnigan’s The Surfer.

Grand Theft Hamlet
#261

To paraphrase Shakespeare, “It is a tale told by three idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” “So shall you hear of carnal, bloody, and unnatural acts, of accidental judgments, casual slaughters, of deaths put on by cunning and forced cause. And, in this upshot, purposes mistook, fallen on the inventors’ heads.” It’s Grand Theft Hamlet, the COVID-initated, machinima documentary written and directed by Sam Crane and Pilly Grylls.

A Different Man
#260
06/06/2025

This week, we’re peeling off prosthetics, unpacking identity crises, and trying really hard not to cast our friends in plays about their own trauma. Is it satire? Is it horror? Is it a giant metaphor about who gets to tell whose story? Yes. That’s right—we’re pulling up a chair at one of the most uncomfortable dinner scenes we’ve seen since Hereditary as we dive into A Different Man, the 2024 surreal psychological dramedy written and directed by Aaron Schimberg.

Bon jour, and welcome to the show. Ian is currently wearing a voluminous outfit that both hinders the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicates seating in the theater, and Sam is currently nude, as we protest the new Cannes dress code, rub shoulders with honorary Palme D’Or winners Robert De Niro and Denzel Washington, and dodge falling palm trees as we celebrate the 78th Cannes Film Festival.

Holland
#258
05/23/2025

This week, we’re going Dutch… Well, sort of. The original spec script describes it as a “Hitchock-ian style thriller with black humor.” However, much like the titular town, in the words of its lead character Nancy Vangergroot, this movie is “like carbon dioxide. It’s so sleepy and comfortable, and you won’t even know you’re suffocating.” It’s Mimi Cave’s Holland.

What Are You Into? Part IX
#257
05/16/2025

You are joining us for another perennial favorite here on Time Sensitive. At the end of nearly every episode, we ask our guest hosts a simple question: What are you into? Even though this sounds like a sexual invitation (it mostly isn’t), we ask our guests to focus on a movie, book, album, game, podcast, or pop culture subject they are currently enjoying. But no one ever asks Sam and Ian what they are into, so we have decided to devote a whole episode to our own pop culture proclivities.

Monkey Man
#256
05/09/2025

It’s a subject we’ve covered many times on the pod with reviews of You Were Never Really Here, The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot, Bacurau, Promising Young Woman, Pig, Vengeance, and of course, Do Revenge. How could we forget Thelma? We have even covered a revenge flick set in India with the triumphant RRR. Needless to say, it’s a subject we know and love, but few revenge movies come as sexy and stylish as Dev Patel’s Monkey Man.

Hundreds of Beavers
#255
05/02/2025

This might be the most bizarre film ever reviewed on Time Sensitive, and yet it is one of the most critically-acclaimed. Return to the nineteenth century for a slapstick, furry-infused, Elmer Fudd/Bugs Bunny-style, brutally genocidal survival film. Sam, what’s worse than an eager beaver? Hundreds of Beavers, directed by Mike Chesslik.

It’s a birthday of sorts. We call it a “Filmversary,” and this episode is an ode to those films that have stood the test of time 5, 10, 20, 50, and even 90 years after their original release due to box office success, cultural significance, and/or Oscar glory.

Love Lies Bleeding
#251
04/04/2025

As we’ve stated before on Time Sensitive, 2024 was, in many ways, the year of the lesbian, so we figured we would celebrate that with one of the year’s most critically acclaimed queer films: Rose Glass’s fun, sweaty, pulpy, and violent neo-noir, Love Lies Bleeding.
